Describe an action plan you may use to enhance your ethical practice and leadership as it pertains to the case example noted above.

Purpose:
Each person brings their own values, beliefs, assumptions, and ethical codes into their work environment and to any encounter with others. This self-assessment from the American College of Healthcare Executives is designed to “assist you in thinking about your ethics-related leadership and actions.” It is not a test and does not have a score. It is intended to help you to “identify those areas in which you are on strong ethical ground, areas that you may wish to examine the basis for your responses, and opportunities for further reflection.” The topics addressed are:

· Leadership

· Relationships – Community; Patients and Their Families; Board; Colleagues and Staff; Clinicians; Buyers, Payors, and Suppliers

I know that many members of the class may not yet be in managerial roles in health care; however, you may be a current supervisor, work with a Board of Directors, or handle exchanges with outside vendors. Whatever your current or past situations, all can apply many of these questions to your career to date or what you strive to do. Portions of such categories as community and colleagues will apply to everyone. (10 points)

Directions

1. Read the American College of Healthcare Executives Code of Ethics in Appendix B of the Perry Text.

2. Complete the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Ethics Self-Assessment found in Appendix A of the Perry Textbook or at .

3. Write a 2-3-page summary (bullet points optional) expressing your ethics-related leadership and actions after completing the assessment. Critically analyze areas in which you are on strong ethical ground, areas that you may wish to examine the basis for your responses, and opportunities for further reflection. Critical analysis will include:

· Review of your responses, noting which questions you answered “usually,” “occasionally,” and “almost never.”

· Notice any red flags where your responses may not be compatible with the ACHE Code of Ethics. (See Appendix B of Perry for the American College of Healthcare Executives Code of Ethics.)

· Consider one case example where you have noted in the self-assessment that you may benefit from altering your ethical foundation to assist in addressing challenging, ethical conflicts.

· Describe an action plan you may use to enhance your ethical practice and leadership as it pertains to the case example noted above.
