As you have seen, the immune system is quite complex. It has many pathways using many cell types and signals. Because it is so complex, there are many ways for it to go wrong. Inherited immunodeficiencies arise from gene mutations that affect specific components of the immune response. There are also acquired immunodeficiencies with potentially devastating effects on the immune system, such as HIV. When your immune system doesn’t work the way it should, it is called an immune system disorder.

Part 1: Provide 3 examples of each of the following immune system disorders Be born with a weak immune system. This is called primary immune deficiency. Get a disease that weakens your immune system. This is called acquired immune deficiency. Have an immune system that is too active. This may happen with an allergic reaction. Have an immune system that turns against you. This is called autoimmune disease.
