Overview

Example: The Creative Non-fiction essay is the first essay you will write for this course. Creative non-fiction is a form of writing that encourages us to use our own perceptions and experiences to explain something or explore an idea.

Use the free writing exercise in this Module to come up with a topic for your narrative. Choose one event that will be engaging for readers and will tell them something about you. Make sure to pick an event you are truly invested in. The more invested you are in your topic, the better your writing will be. Don\’t forget the details. Don\’t just catalogue a series of events. Your essay should focus on one event in time. For example, you could describe the moment that you received your High School diploma, but you should not describe your entire senior year. Keep in mind that the more sensory details you include, the more your reader will feel as though they are right there with you. Make your event come alive for the reader.

Make sure you consider carefully the implications of your narrative. One thing that distinguishes creative non-fiction from other sorts of narrative writing is that you\’re not only telling a story, but also reflecting upon it in some significant way. Don\’t tack a moral on the end. Instead, try to insert your own reflections on the events of the story throughout, moving back and forth between the offering of vivid details and a discussion of why those details are important to you and your reader. Why is this narrative topic important? Explain why.

MY TOPIC :1. The day I found veganism is the day I stopped withering away. There has always been a constant feeling of needing to be an ideal woman. There is a feeling of am I really here? because you feel isolated from friends, family, and society. Being anorexic leaves you feeling lonely. One particular day I was scrolling through social media envying beautiful, thin models and I came across this one girl you seemed so happy. She was fit and glowing and her lifestyle was vegan. Slowly, I began to switch my perspective on food and even my life. My journey has been more recent due to the fact I struggled with body image practically my whole life practically in high-school, but the road to recovery wouldnt have been possible without my new lifestyle.
**I will upload my original draft** I want the tone of my paper to be the tone of \”Dairy of a Teenage Girl-(reference)\”http://www.newyorker.com/culture/richard-brody/generic-teen-spirit
***You can exaggerate detail and make stuff up to make it sound better.I have a particular aversion to essays whose theme is devoted to a drunken escapade of some sort. Unless your story on this topic is particularly meaningful, I dont want to hear about it.
Be sure to begin with both an engaging title and hook sentence.
