First research a cause that you care about (immigration, abortion, the environment, police brutality, women’s rights, etc.) then create a Microsoft PowerPoint and include a minimum of 10 slides (the works cited page does not count) in which you provide reasons why your civil rights leader or social activist is the best candidate for the 2024 Presidency.

Assignment Question

For this project you will be able to select a civil rights leader or social activist of your own choosing to run for the presidency,(In this case its rosa parks), who has made a significant contribution to in the area of civil liberties, either here in the U.S. or any other country. If the person you admire is deceased, you will “bring them back to life” to run for the upcoming election. Your slides must be colorful and include pictures of the person and images of the causes they believe in. What to include in the Slides: In addition to a basic introduction of your civil rights leader or social activist, your presentation MUST also address current issues facing the country and how your person can change them. If you do not know your person’s political ideology on the issues you’ve chosen, then you can choose your own political ideology as long as it does not change the person’s character. For example, if you chose Mother Theresa as your social activist, you could not claim in your presentation that she would be Pro-Choice because she was a devoted Catholic nun who believed in the sanctity of human life. Choosing their political ideology is the only portion of the assignment that can be fictional. You MUST include in your presentation the name of an interest group that would support your candidate. (For example, if your candidate is Martin Luther King, Jr., then the NAACP would be an interest group who would support and financially back your candidate). You will be graded on how well you have researched your activist and present your candidate’s qualifications to meet the current needs in the United States. For example, how would your candidate address the gun debate, racism in our country, abortion, immigration issues, the deficit, police brutality, rising homelessness, unemployment, health care, etc. You do not need to include all issues, but definitely address some of them. AGAIN, if you really don’t know how your leader would address them…make it up! This campaign is fictional and therefore you can embellish the political ideology. (For example, Dr. King’s opinion on the legalization of marijuana is unknown, but his opinion on gun control would be evident in his views on non-violence.) In addition to the above requirements, you will also be evaluated on how familiar you are with the work your civil rights leader or social activist has done for civil liberties. The PowerPoint should be professional and not have too many words…make it simple, but get your point across. Do not simply cut/paste information into the slides. You must summarize your research and put the information into bullet points on the presentation. Be creative and use pictures and colorful images. Take a look at past presidential campaign ads at www.livingroomcandidate.orgLinks to an external site. so that you can visualize the kind of imagery and/or political rhetoric that goes into actual presidential campaigns. Notice how the candidates in these videos are portrayed to the American public…what words are used to describe the candidate? Do they address the issues or do they ignore the issues and speak negatively about their opponent? What about the scenery, colors, music…all of it is designed to convey a message…what kind of positive image do you want associated with your civil rights leader/social activist? What has this person done that would make them the best candidate for the “leader of the free-world? You must get all of the information from these academic sources below: Batt, H. C. (2023).
