Observing Gestures in a Film or Television Program
For this exercise, you’ll need to find a film or television program that you can watch to observe mannerisms and facial expressions. We want you to prepare a 2 page essay in which you discuss the expression of emotions through gestures and facial expressions in one scene of the film or text. Be sure your essay mentions the title of the film or television program and gives a one or two sentence synopsis of the characters and action in the scene. Then outline the emotions you observed in the various characters involved. What are the actions/expressions that lead you to your conclusions about these emotions? You need to clearly distinguish the mannerisms and expressions for what they mean. (For instance you might point out that a character raised his voice or motioned with an index finger and you might say that person looked angry, your conclusions about the emotional meaning expressions). This means you need to distinguish the action you observe from how you interpret what the particular action means. Please do not write the about the storyline beyond your brief synopsis of the action.
