Interactive Project
For this project, you will be asked to explore a sexual health topic by engaging in some type of interactive experience. Please select an experience that interests you, challenges you, and helps you to broaden your understanding of sexuality.
Specific Guidelines
Select and Complete One of the Following Experiences:
Interview a community health educator who educates the public on sexual health issues (you may want to contact a community health agency or health department)
Interview a sexual therapist or sex counselor – what are the most common disorders? Why?
Visit a public health clinic that treats STDs and interview the workers or administrators.
Interview a police officer dealing with pornography, prostitution or other sex-related issues.
Interview a priest/minister/rabbi regarding his/her opinion on a specific controversial sex-related issue or sexuality in general. Reasons why certain views are held?
Analyze five ads from popular magazines to identify their sexual implications. Please include the ads with this paper and be sure to include a bibliographical citation for each ad.
Listen to and analyze at least three popular songs that focus on sex or have strong sexual innuendoes. Include a written copy of the lyrics for the songs selected in addition to your paper – what are the main themes/messages of the song? Discuss your reaction.
Interview a school teacher who teaches children about sexuality education – (what are the barriers or challenges that this person faces, how do students react in these classes?)
Interview someone who is heterosexual and then interview someone who is homosexual – compare and contrast their feelings and experiences related to sexual orientation.
View an X- or XXX-rated movie – discuss your observations, feelings, and reactions. (Do you feel this movie was made primarily for males, females, or both; any differences between the depiction of sexuality in this movie and that depicted in other types of erotic videos?)
View several adult-oriented magazines (some geared toward males and some geared toward females) – compare and contrast. Any differences? Reasons for differences?
Attend a “fun” party (party selling sexual and discuss the reaction of participants
Visit an adult bookstore or store selling sexual paraphernalia and interview the salesperson
Interview an AIDS victim or someone that works with AIDS victims.
Interview five college students regarding their beliefs about sexual behavior, sexual concerns, and their comfort with sexual communication among partners, peers, and family members.
Visit a strip club (one with female dancers and one with male dancers) – compare/contrast.
Interview a health educator who teaches about date/acquaintance rape prevention
Interview a professional who researches on sexual behavior.
Compare/contrast a “heterosexual” nightclub with a “gay/lesbian” nightclub
Visit a family planning clinic and interview the workers.
Visit an anti-abortion group and interview the workers, volunteers or administrators.
Visit an abortion clinic or a pro-choice group and interview the workers or volunteers.
Visit an online dating service and view an online dating chat-room.
