Quality and risk assignment
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
1. Debate current practices, catalysts and drivers for quality, safety and risk management in healthcare and apply best practice quality & risk frameworks, tools and techniques to their area of practice.
2. Critically discuss accreditation and standards as an external assessment of healthcare service quality and risk.
3. Evaluate the use of healthcare and clinical governance frameworks to demonstrate the co-ordination of quality, safety and risk management initiatives in healthcare.
4. Analyse a case study appropriate to healthcare quality and risk.
5. Demonstrate ability to effectively and concisely communicate the key concepts of healthcare quality management to meet the requirements of an academic poster.
Part A: Critical discussion document:
3,000 (+/- 10%) words, assesses learning outcomes 1, 3 and 4
Carry out a risk management activity on the services and associated processes as presented in the video case study, “Recognising Risk and Improving Patient Safety – Mildred’s Story”.
The output of this activity is a report constructed using the following headings:
1. Introduction.
2. The importance of evidence-based healthcare quality, safety and governance frameworks.
3. Evidence-based risk management best practice (please note this section shall include the identification of a risk management methodology to be applied with supporting rationale for selection).
4. Risk management objective.
5. Risk identification (please note FIVE (5) risks shall be identified)
6. Risk assessment and estimation.
7. Risk control planning.
8. Conclusion.
Part B: Academic poster:

Construct an appropriately titled academic poster which concisely and attractively identifies, summarises and communicates an evidence-based healthcare quality, safety and governance framework which is vital for the provision of high quality and safe services in modern healthcare organisations.
Your goal is to convey a clear message supported by a compelling combination of images and short blocks of text.
