-My paper must cover before and after 1950
-My paper is going to cover how the Iraqi military devolved from a powerful and efficient force of power into a weak and unstable one that cannot defend its territory.
-When and how Iraqi was established
-The primary causes of this devolvement include early foreign intervention, the formation of the Baathist regime, and the many wars that Iraq has been involved in.
-These wars include the 1974 war, the Iraq-Iran war, 1991 Gulf War, and the 2003 Iraq war.

-In the space below, and in a paragraph of no less than five sentences, describe three pertinent facts, theories or other “chunks” of information that will help you better understand the historical nature or historical dimensions of your topic and/or answer one or both of your research questions.?
Iraq: People, History, Politics is a monograph that discovers and explains the history of Iraq from the formation of the country after WW1 to events of 2003. The book also explains how the Ottoman Empire came into power and how it fell. This can help with my topic by showing the formation of the Iraqi military when the Ottoman Empire fell and most of its generals and soldiers joined the first Iraqi army with much experience. This book also explains the political movement from an authoritarian country to a totalitarian one. With this movement we can understand the progress of the military with each political party. For example, when Saddam Hussein was in power he made the military politically active in the country,s issues. This action made the army more powerful by giving it more authority over the public. The book also states how under the Baathist regime the Iraqi military entered 2 wars with the effect of exiting these wars in a weak condition. Finally, the book explains the events of the invasion of 2003 and the fall of the Baathist regime.

-In light of your expanding set of sources and multiple instances of comments from your instructor and/or TAs, craft what you would classify as your final (or near final) thesis statement for your essay.
-The Iraqi military devolved from a powerful and effective force of power to a weak and unstable one due to the rise of the Baathist regime and the many wars Iraq has been involved in.
(Try to specify the timeframe of your study. When did the Iraqi army begin to weaken? Did the Baathist regime weaken the army? If so, be more specific. Please stop in during office hours for clarification.).
