Since the UN conference in Stockholm in 1972 concern for the natural environment – and human beings’ impact upon it – has become more and more apparent. With problems such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, habitat destruction and pollution there is an increased awareness that action needs to be taken, both at the local and the global levels. Central to this agenda has been the emergence of ecological ethics, what the philosopher Ronald Sandler describes as ‘the attempt to understand the human relationship with the environment and determine the norms that should govern our behaviour to it’.
I would like the essay to be written in this structure: 150 words Introduction, 1,200 words Body, 150 words Conclusion. The issue “Climate Change” comes first, before the attempt to apply a specific ethic to it. Do humans have an obligation to future generations for environmental conservation? OR Are species at risk from environmental degradation have a right to exist? Which is more convincing? Make it clear. Cheers
