Personal identity and science fictional narratives

This is an argumentative paper. This means you will have to choose a position on some theme from the reading. You will have to choose a position on one side of your topics and defend your argument. However, you should be wary of being merely reactionary – just because you are frustrated with a topic does not make you able to argue for why the other position is wrong. One highly important factor in doing philosophy is being able to discuss the issues at hand. topic must have the following components: first, it must address a philosophical issue and a science fiction concern. Secondly, it must contain both a conclusion and at least two premises. An example topic for the paper would be as follows: I will argue that precognition as seen in Minority Report and free will cannot coexist, because foreknowledge demonstrates determinism, and because determinism is not compatible with free will. at least five academic sources (NO WIKIPEDIA, DICTIONARY, BLOGS, etc. – these will lose you a LOT of points). Another suggested topic would be on absolutism. Absolutism was the major issue that made people believe it had caused restriction on them; hence they created resistance that hindered the work of hobbes. Therefore i will be talking about the issue of absolutism and the changes it brought. (From leviathian the Third part by thomas Hobbes)

My professor approved of both topics, the one on absolutism she said should be mostly tied to politics and less to ethics.
