The topic of discussion will be Gender and Public Health. So Gender being the independant variable and public health( Ex: illnesses) is the dependant variable.
Research Design
This section will have two paragraphs. The first is the data section (includes: define measures and unit of analysis);
the second is the methods section (what associations between X and Y will you investigate? Will you employ
quantitative or qualitative methods?)
DATA
Must include statements on your measures – How do you operationalize X and Y? how do you measure X1…n
and Y? Which variables are continuous, categorical, dichotomous, why? – what is the benefit of this
particular measurement? Are these secondary data or primary –only qualitative projects may use primary
data; what is your Units of Analysis – what group/s are you including in your analysis? Is it a population or a
sample? Convenience, random, stratified? What is the rationale for using this group? What patterns or
associations exist?
METHODS2
Dr. Southgate
LAVC
Must include a statement on how you will ANALYZE your data. Will you compare two counties, states, or
schools? Will you look at an outcome BY race, class or gender? Geographic areas: nations,
states/providences; zip codes; etc.?
If your method is Quantitative, what is your hypothesis? If your method is QUALITATIVE you need to provide
a list of aspects or a discussion of INDUCTION method (looking for patterns with no analytic frame).
