Future Trends of Sport Social Issues

It is fairly rare for people to be able to predict the future with any accuracy, but if you study
the trends and analyze the odds for those trends to gain traction, stall, or disappear, you might make
some educated guesses. Assuming you’ve absorbed the changes in sport that have occurred in the past 50 years, try to imagine some that may occur by 2025 or 2050. Some suggestions for change were detailed in the box on page 366 in Woods.

Part One:

Using information from Chapter 20, please describe two changes that you foresee in the structure or organization of sports in the next twenty years. For example, will the number of participants increase in pleasure and participation sports when compared with performance sports? How will the changing population affect sport participation? These are just a couple suggestions. Think outside of the box for your changes and keep a global perspective in mind when developing them. Remember to support your changes with information from your textbook and other sources.

Part Two:

“Who will lead the way?” (Woods, 377) From the list of social theories on page 377 and 378, select the theory or theories that will drive your two proposed changes from Part One. Try to memorize, understand, and evaluate these theories according to your experiences and studies.

Instructions for each Forum Assignment:
– Reference the location for all of your ideas at the end of your discussion labeled “References”, according to APA style
– In addition to the end references, please use APA style for in line citations.
– By Thursday of this week, your initial post is due and should be titled “Discussion 8 your first name and last name” (without the quotation marks). This post should be a minimum of 300 words.
– By Sunday of this week, you are required to respond to at least two of your classmates’ initial posts. These response posts should be a minimum of 200 words and add meaningful content with references if used. In your responses, you should be:
Respectful to what your classmate said
Critical of the content to further the conversation and increase critical thinking
These discussions are opportunities to reflect, analyze, and even challenge thought, but proper netiquette rules must be followed.
Original-please do not just reiterate what other students have already stated and/or directly quote major portions of the posts
Please feel free to respond to more than two of the posts, and keep in mind that I have until Friday the following week to complete grading. Therefore, take the opportunity to check back on the forum discussions to further the conversations. I do like to ask a lot of follow up questions, so this is a great opportunity to gain a greater understanding and further support your points.
– For your initial post each week, you must incorporate into and apply 3 idea/concepts from the week’s assigned readings. This will be evidenced by clear identification of the ideas using APA style, both in line and at the end. The ideas/concepts must be logically placed in the post in a way that fits with the flow of the rest of your writing.
– These are general requirements and will be placed at the bottom of each of the weekly topical discussion instructions for your reference.
– Please have fun and incorporate real world examples, both personal and current events, to support your points.

Initial post is meaningful, reflects critical thinking, and provides insight on the discussion topic.
