Demonstrate an understanding of written humor and exercise comic creativity in a sustained and engaging way.

Purpose: To demonstrate an understanding of written humour and exercise comic creativity in a sustained and engaging way.

Task: You will submit a 1000-1250 word comic prose composition that may be either fiction or non-fiction, or a blend of each. You may compose a short story, an essay, a review, a polemic, or parody of any prose form — however, the aesthetic priority of the piece should be humour.

Your assignment should be a smart, playful, funny demonstration of your understanding of the potential and advantages of written comic forms, and show you being funny by relying only on the strength of your words. It should also demonstrate an engagement with the general rules and tropes of humour discussed over the course of the semester. Any errors in grammar or gracelessness in writing style should be (convincingly) part of the comic expression of the piece.
