SPECIFIC ESSAY REQUIREMENTS
Introduction
This part of your essay will be one to two paragraphs in length. You should include some general information that you want to start your essay with and clearly state the purpose of the essay.
Main Section (Body)
This is the main portion of your essay and should be 3.5 to 5 pages in length and include subsections. You should probably use headings to separate the different sections of your essay. In the body of your essay, you will make a strong and supported connection between the study, the Bill of Rights Amendment and the Article or Amendment identified from the rest of the Constitution of the United States. Be sure to connect all ideas in your essay to the course material.
Conclusion
This part of your essay will probably be one paragraph in length. In this part, you should summarize the main ideas of your essay. No new issues are to be introduced in the conclusion.
References
At the end of the essay, you must include a list of the references you cited. The reference list does NOT count toward the page number requirement. You must follow APA format for both in-text citations and the reference list.
GENERAL ESSAY REQUIREMENTS
The following are general essay guidelines that you are to also follow.
5 to 7 pages in length (NOT including the title and reference pages). This means a minimum of five full pages, not just one or two lines on Page 5.
Include a cover page following the APA guidelines for the cover page format
Word processed
Double-spaced; 12-point font; preferably Times New Roman
One (1) inch margins on top and bottom; sides can be up to 1.25”
All material taken from another author/resource must be cited (if not it is plagiarism and you will lose points). This includes textbooks, journal articles, lectures, websites, and other resources.
Dictionaries, encyclopedias, Wikipedia and other wiki type sources are NOT academic resources and are not to be used as references in this class!
The essay must be properly referenced using APA format – end of sentence reference generally looks like – (Smith & Jones, 2008). Within a sentence, the citation should be something like – Ahmad (2014) stated ….
A reference page must be included at the end of the essay (this page is not part of the page count). The reference page will be in APA format.
No more than 2 short direct quotes in the text, rather you should summarize and paraphrase information from other authors. If direct quotes are used these must be properly cited as well (author, year, p. ).
Do not use contractions
Indent the first line of each paragraph by ½ inch
Spell out the numbers nine and under; use digits/numerals for numbers 10 and over
Use the APA Publication Manual as resources for writing and formatting your essay
EDIT, EDIT, EDIT – run spell-check, review it, read it out loud, and review it again.
If percent follows a number use the percent (%) symbol (example: 50%)
