This is a Masters of Special Education course. For this assignment, the focus is all on families! You will learn about the importance of fostering productive partnerships between school personnel and families through the six assigned readings. You will also take a close look at the ways families are either empowered or disenfranchised when it comes to participating in IEP meetings. I have uploaded the six assigned readings for you to read and review before you start the “Reflection of A Family Interview”. I have uploaded the actual interview to use for the reflection paper itself. All the paper requirements, instructions, guidelines and graded rubric to go by will be uploaded as well.

*Conducting a Family Interview*

Instructions:

The purpose of this assignment is for you to get a better understanding of the perspectives of families of students with disabilities when collaborating with education personnel.

To complete this assignment, follow the steps listed below:

1.) Read and review the uploaded Family Interview.

2.) After reading and reviewing the questions and answers with the family member, you will write a two-page (double-spaced) reflection paper about what you learned from the family member. Your reflection paper should include new insights you have gained, recommendations you have for improving family-school partnerships, challenges the family member noted about the collaboration process, lingering questions you have, etc.

Guidelines:

To successfully complete this assignment, you should:

– Complete the assignment by following all steps outlined above.

– Be sure to include a list of the interview questions you used.

– Look at the uploaded Rubric to see how the interview reflection will be graded.
