Assignment: Using concepts from class (lecture, text, video), analyze the reenactment of the decision to launch the Challenger Shuttle. For example, who are the key players in this decision? The case is often used to demonstrate group think. What do you think the characteristics of group think are as exhibited in the video? Other than group think, what are some other concepts demonstrated in the video? What are the turning points in the decision? What seemed to influence the shift? Was there supportive or defensive communication used? What was the interaction pattern like? What about power structures, etc.? How would small group decision-making theories analyze what happened in this case? What would you recommendations would you make to the group?

The paper must contain the following:
(1) description of the course concepts (define and explain course material);
(2) description of the relevant scenes from the video, and;
(3) an application of the concepts to the movie scenes (demonstrate how the class content is enacted in the movie).
Mechanics: If you use ideas from sources other than the textbook you MUST cite these sources in your paper by including a separate reference page using APA or MLA style. To do “excellent” work on this paper means you offer detailed examples that are fully analyzed using the functions of language and two additional concepts from the textbook. Your paper should be well organized and interesting to read.. Do not go above or below the page limit.

Grading

This assignment is worth fifty (50) points. The paper will constitute 20% of your final grade.
Your analysis will be graded along the following dimensions:

Essay answers all aspects of the question, demonstrates a complete understanding of the relevant principles, displays adequate use of analysis connecting relevant principles and issues covered in readings and class discussion.
Creativity:
Essay makes unique and compelling points about class readings.
Structure:
Essay shows evidence of careful preparation. Clear organization (introduction/body/conclusion), a thesis statement, a logical flow. Appears to have gone through more than one draft.
Style:
Essay is written following standard rules of English grammar, (e.g. no typos, no sentence fragments, run-ons, etc.).
Total:

Each item will have a grade of 5-10 with 5 being unsatisfactory and 10 exhibiting an excellent rating.
