Cholera

Research Paper Instructions

Though the chapters which deal with infectious diseases are beyond the scope of this course, we will touch on these important topics in a slightly different way. Each of you will write a brief research paper (3 – 5 pages) on an infectious disease. There will be a common discussion topic in the discussion area for sharing the findings of your research.

Content:

In your paper be sure to include:

1. Description of the organism that causes the disease – what type of organism, life cycle, classification, etc.

2. Mode of transmission

3. Method of diagnosis

4. Pathology

5. Treatment/Prevention

6. Epidemiology

7. Future

Format:

1. The paper will be double spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font with 1 inch margins. You will include a title page with YOUR NAME and SECTION, the title of the course, the name of your topic, and the due date. The title page does not count towards your required pages.

2. Most of the information you need can be found on the internet or textbook (Chapters 17-23). You may also need to take a trip to the library and consult Bergey’s manual of bacteriology. You will need to have a works cited page which lists at least 3 sources for your information. This page does not count towards the page number requirements.

3. After looking at the requirements for the paper, you should realize that you will need to squeeze a lot of information into a relatively small space, so be very concise, organized and to the point.
