Religious studies

Read 2 articles and in your own words summarize it. The summary for each article should be one to two paragraphs. Second, discuss how each article illustrates, expands on, or supports themes weve discussed in class this quarter. This discussion should be at least two paragraphs for each article and should be the bulk of each essay. Write your essay for the first article, then write your essay for your second article, being sure to identify which articles youre summarizing.
Rules:
1) The essays must be in your own words. One or two short quotations from each article are allowed, but these should constitute a tiny proportion of each essay. You are not to cut and paste or otherwise use reviews, editorials or any other sources from the web or outside of your textbook.
2) The essays must clearly and concisely summarize the main points of each article. You can do this in a large paragraph or in two paragraphs.
3) Your discussion of how the article relates to topics discussed in class should clearly reference the information at the beginning of that chapter, any applicable information from other chapters, and any lecture material or movies you been provided. Be thorough!
4) The minimum for each essay is 300 words. The maximum for each essay is 600 words. This means that your entire extra credit assignment should be between 600 and 1200 words.
Grading Rubric:
This extra credit opportunity tests your ability to a) summarize what youve read in a thorough and comprehensive way and b) place the article in the context of the entire course as a whole, drawing links and making comparisons to information youve seen elsewhere this quarter. The summary of each article is 3 points; the discussion of the article in relation to other themes and topics weve discussed in class is worth 7 points for each article. Full credit will be given to essays that are thorough and clearly show me that you are able to place each article in the broader context of this class in a meaningful way.
