. What to do:
a. You will develop a blog and regularly post to it using a (free) site such as
blogger.com, blog.com, or word press.com, etc. If you experience technical issues
in setting up your blog, please see or email (helpdesk@msvu.ca) the IT Help
Desk.
Each week a topic will be assigned for you to write about. Blog topics are
noted below.
All posts must be new material, written from scratch. You cannot post
writings that you have done in the past. Any suspected or confirmed cases of
plagiarism will be handled in accordance to University Calendar guidelines,
see section on “Integrity” in the course outline.
Your blog should be professional in appearance and content. It should be
something that you would be proud to show a potential employer.
b. You are to reflect on the topics outlined below and offer your thoughts and
opinion on the subject matter in question. Ask yourself these questions before
you blog:
Do you agree or disagree with some aspect of the topic of presented?
Do you feel that it was communicated effectively, or appropriately?
c. Your post must demonstrate that you have:
Studied the material presented to you using active listening skills
Reflected on it, and asked yourself: what does this mean and how does this
impact me, what did I learn from this?
Think critically about it: was this message communicated as effectively as it
could have been? Do I agree or disagree with this? How do I feel about the
assumptions upon which the information is based?
2. Blog Topic:

3. Length: Each blog post should be approximately 150-200 words in length.
4. Organization: Organize your thoughts before you blog!
5. Evaluation: The evaluation rubric is posted on MOODLE. The evaluation rubric contains
a list of five criteria that will be used to evaluate the blog. Students are strongly encouraged
to review the evaluation rubric prior to preparing to blog.
6. Getting your blog grade: Each blog mark will be posted on the MOODLE grade book.
The Blog Post will be evaluated using 5 criteria:
RELEVANCE
1. The blog post was relevant to the assigned subject matter. The blog post was written in a
manner that demonstrated that the blogger understood the subject matter in question.
PROFESSIONALISM
2. The blog and blog post has a professional appearance and could be shown to a potential
employer as an example of the professionalism of the student.
CRITICAL THINKING
3. The blog post demonstrated critical thinking. The message was communicated
effectively. The blogger gave their opinion on whether they agree or disagree and
offered their opinion on how they feel about the assumptions upon which the subject
matter in question is based.
REFLECTION
4. The blog post offered a reflection on the assigned topic. In reading the post, it was
obvious that the blogger asked themselves: what does this mean and how does this impact
me, what did I learn from this?
STYLE
5. The blog post was well written: clear message, articulate, and organized. It was original
(no suspicion of plagiarism) and written using an appropriate tone.
