astronomy extra

Astronomy is an active field, with new discoveries occurring almost daily. Submit a one page (double-spaced, 12-point font, one-inch margins) write-up about a recent astronomical news story of your choice. Your summary of the article should be brief; most of the page should be dedicated to how the article relates to what you’ve learned in class, and your thoughts on the subject. Remember to cite your sources! You may submit up to one news write-up per week.

you are not going to do number 1 and 2, but you need to read them in order to do number 3.

1) Photograph the Moon on as many clear nights as you can. Drawings are not acceptable. Photographs must be made by you, and should be clear enough to distinguish the phase (consider using a tripod). Indicate which direction is up on each photograph if it is at all ambiguous. All observations must be made during the same lunar cycle.

2) Provide an observing log that indicates your location (if not Toledo), the date, time, weather conditions, phase, and approximate location of the Moon for each photograph. Examples of location include: “due East and near the horizon” or “North-West and high in sky.”

3) Write a one page (double-spaced, 12-point font, one-inch margins) summary of how you approached the project, and what you learned.
