In the early part of the play, Torvald Helmer speaks often about the role of the husband, the standards of honesty, and the necessity of having the highest morals and ideals. In his words and his actions, he demonstrates the role he has assigned for himself and for Nora. What are these roles? What does he reveal about himself in what he says and does? Does he have an accurate view of the situation or his marriage? How does Nora live up to the stereotype of a “little woman” and where do we get an indication that there might be more to her than meets the eye?
