Christianity
In our study of the Christian tradition, we have explored a wide variety of topics relating to the three major divisions within Christianity: Orthodoxy, Catholicism, and Protestantism. Type a 3-5 page paper answering all of the following parts:
Imagine that you were having a conversation with an evangelical protestant and he started challenging the legitimacy of the beliefs and practices of the Catholic faith. In the paper develop the conversation that would take place between you and the Evangelical. First explain the Catholic faith in relationship to the other Christian denominations by construct a historical development of the Christian Tradition (drawing on the significance of the Catholic Church). Be sure to include the following historical developments: Explain why the early Church was concerned with preserving unity and how they attempted to preserve its unity; explain the role of the Church played after the collapse of the Roman Empire; and explain how the great schism of the Church and the Protestant reform movement began and eventually break the Church’s unity. Some Christians believe that this historical explanation of the Church division is irrelevant to our current conflicts between the Christian denominations on what true Christian discipleship is. Explain the biggest differences between the churches who confess Jesus Christ that prevents communion in light of your historical explanation. Finally explain how you personally can contribute to the ecumenism in this specific conversation with an evangelical. Remember the goal is to not be afraid of the other and work for a common unity but yet preserve the truth retained within the Catholic Church.
The paper must be typed in Times New Roman, 12pt font, one inch margins, and double-spaced. The heading must be:
