The document that you will write will be a compilation of four lesson plans and it will explain how you will meet the needs of four different students with varying special needs in the classroom. Make sure that your lessons are of a high quality prior to differentiating to meet the needs of your students.
Introduction – Write a description of your classroom including the environment, the students, and motivational strategies you plan to employ. (Two Page Only: separate from the Lesson Plans)
Lesson Plans -Write one lesson plan of a Unit Theme on Ocean with the following subjects:
-Reading
-Written Language
-Oral Language
-Mathematics
Special Needs Students – Create four (4) fictitious students with special needs and fully describe their special learning needs (include definition and description of the condition, characteristics, referral or support seeking procedures). – Nick – Hearing Impairment
– Faith – Speech or Language Impairment
– Hope – Visual Impairment
– John – Emotional/Behavior
Write two specific IEPs goals for each of these students.
Assessment – Based on your reading in the text and other related professional sources such as websites, write a summary of how you will assess the students’ skills on the subject areas (e.g. written language).
Accommodations – Utilizing and citing the text and at least three (3) professional journals or professional websites, describe comprehensive support (i.e. recommended accommodations and community resources) for assisting each of your students who have been identified with special needs. Provide sufficient accommodations for one student on each lesson plan. Accommodations may either be color coded and highlighted within the lesson plan or an accommodations section may follow each plan. The paper’s references should be cited in APA Style format.

Anticipatory set (3-6 minutes): Purpose is to get students focused, and may include a short activity or prompt that focuses the students’ attention; called a hook. Examples include a handout given at door, review question written on board, problems on an overhead or screen
Procedure (xx minutes): This is the most detailed portion, containing multiple logically- sequenced and specific chunks that address salient points of the lesson and anticipated student questions or difficulties.
Closure (xx minutes): Includes actions or statements to bring the lesson to an end, and can include a summary or review of what students were expected to do … may want to restate the lesson objectives here … can have multiple closures.
Student Evaluation: How the teacher knows that students have learned … note that walking around the room does not satisfy this requirement … Need to have behavior you are looking for specified. Think of something other than quizzes)
Assignment: What students must do to prepare for the next class – not always required.
Adaptations for Student with Special Needs: Addresses how the teacher makes specific accommodations for specific students with special needs.
