Describe the difference whether love is considered an affection of bodies, an obstacle to souls, a convention of society or a determination of individuals.

Course Description
Philosophers have differed in their views of the erotic, for it makes all the difference whether love is considered an affection of bodies, an obstacle to souls, a convention of society or a determination of individuals. In this course we read four major philosophers of love, with an eye to gaining an accurate, thorough and objective apprehension of their arguments. The insights into methods and principles thus arrived at may then be brought to bear on literary, visual and artifactual works.
