Stoic philosopher

In working out the following problem, you need to try to think like a Stoic philosopher – the correct answer is one that a Stoic philosopher would give.

The Stoics’ believe and argue for two theses:

1) There is a God (Zeus).

2) God (Zeus) permeates, orders, and binds together the whole cosmos.

Which of the following statements (a) – (f) could or would the Stoics use to support these theses? Identify whether a statement supports 1,2, or neither; then briefly (but clearly) explain how you think the Stoics would use it to support the thesis. In case one of the statements (a)-(f) supports neither 1 or 2 in your opinion, you do not need to explain why it does not do so (simply say it does not).

a) God has revealed himself to some human beings.

b) There are moral duties and these can only be due to the existence of a fully rational and fully benevolent God.

c) There must have been something that caused everything else but it is itself not caused by anything else since a causal change cannot be infinitely long.

d) The events in the world are mutually dependent (e.g., the movements of moon is connected to the tides) and things in the world stand and operate in mutually beneficial relationship to one another.

e) God is perfect and existence is a perfection.

f) The whole universe is perfectly ordered and beautiful.
