Traumatic experiences due to political change and civil strife. How do these changes affect the characters?

topics to choose from:

1.Family and relationships in either work. Consider Speigelmans relationship with his father, as he convinces his father to participate in the work, and to tell his story. Consider also Satrapis being sent away from her family, and the effects that this experience has on her and her immediate family.

2.Traumatic experiences due to political change and civil strife. How do these changes affect the characters? How significant is it that the experiences in Maus happen before Speigelman is born? Focus your investigation on the role of memory, and how those memories are represented. Consider the personal journey that the characters undertake as they reflect on how modern history has impacted their lives.

3.Major themes and their implications in either work. Consider plot events, as well as academic scholarship around the work you choose to write about.

4.A summary/critique of reviews of either of the books or the film we watch. Use research, or online critique to assess the translation of book to film.

5.A comparison of Maus and Persepolis. Note that Satrapi is a direct participant in her story, while Speigelman gets his information as an oral history.
