Animals Observation
Do you like watching animals, and how do you watch them? According to an online statistic, there are about 175 million people going to the zoo every year. It is a huge number that many people want to watch animals directly. In Animals and Society, which detailed describes human and animal relationship. The author states that one of the major reasons why people visit different areas where animals are kept is because people love animals and thus more captivated by their appearance. My experience of reading this book is that it has honest opinions and additional research that related to the reasons why people want to watch or observe animals. There are many ways for human to watch animals; however, we should have responsibilities to protect animals, when we watch animals in the zoo, a sport, and on TV.
First, we should consider about the zoo is beneficial to people or harmful to animals. Most of us enjoy viewing different kinds of animals directly in the zoo because we are curious about how they move, behave, and make sounds in real observation. Nevertheless, in order to build a zoo, the leader will collect other kinds of animals from dealers or hunters and, what is more, hunters would kill old animals or even a herd so as to get baby animals. In addition, dealers also transport animals from all over the world by trading them with other zoos. About the use of the zoo, I believed that this is not the best way in which animals should be made. Animals should stay in their normal habitat or without human bothering in our environment.
Second, blood sports had risen because it can make money. Those who participate in blood sports excuse their actions of every description. Due to the huge amount of reward, more people start to train animals to fight for the sport. However, the sport can even lead to the death of animals. The illegal, cruel, and exploitative practices should not exist anymore. We should save animals from abuse and build the law to against abusers.
Third, to caring for the animals, there are alternative methods for watching animals. We can watch either on TV or films that were produced. Though the alternative methods do not give us the real experience to watch animals, it is better than no experience at all. To protect animal, the best way is not to touch and no contact with them, but to provide an original place where they can live forever. I support the author’s conclusion that “by viewing all manner of animals without interfering in an animal’s life” (DeMello 121). I was also impressed that photographers and filmmakers always don’t bother animals when they are near them.
In short, we can protect the remaining animals when we treat them with respect. Animals form an important component of our ecosystem; therefore, “we need to be adequately protected so as to ensure that the rare species do not go extinct” (Bob, and Marvin 8). It is important that we protect animals, and we have a life to live with them. I gain a lot knowledge when reading this chapter. In order to build a zoo, there are many backgrounds that I don’t know before. To set a competition, people can earn money and get the reward, but how the animals lives. The alternative methods that we observe the animals should be so helpful to the animals. There are so many ways to observe animals, so we should choose the friendly and the best way to protect them.
