Scenario:
Suppose there is an organization (Spurious Inc.) in Riyadh that specializes in the development of IT projects. It has around 200 IT related regular employees. Out of these employees there are many who want to have certification by passing the PMI’s PMP exam. For this purpose they usually join private evening training programs offered outside the organization. These training programs are usually expensive. Furthermore, the employees, tired after a full day’s work at Spurious Inc., have to commute in the evening traffic rush to the lieu of the training programs. This adds to their fatigue and as a result many employees abandon these programs a few days after joining or are frequently absent or are too tired to learn anything new.
Your group has been selected for a summer internship of six weeks in Spurious Inc. You had your first meeting with the Human Resources Manager. He got very interested when you told him that all of you got “A” grade in IS-612 Project Management course. He told you that he wanted to have a small evening training program focused on PMI’s PMP exam. The training will be open only for employees of the organization and will be free of cost. The classes can be held in the discussion room of the organization which already has a media projector for slides and has a seating arrangement for 20 people. The trainer can be from within Spurious Inc., as there are some senior employees who have passed the PMI certification exams and one of them can be selected. Spurious Inc. had the intention of paying the trainer for his time and effort.
The Manager told you that your Project during your internship was to plan and execute the run-up to the training program. The company wants to start the program (i.e. offer the first training course) within the
next six weeks. After your project has finished, and the program has been launched, the Human Resources department will manage the program.
The Manager said the selected tutor will be responsible for writing the materials for the course. The materials of the course will be lecture notes and practice PMP exam questions. He added that the material should be of “good quality” and “error-free” and it should be available before the starting of the program. For ensuring the quality of the material, it will have to be counter-checked by two qualified persons from within the organization.
The Project team will initially comprise of you (three internees), but will be joined by the selected trainer (after one week) and two persons entrusted with vetting the material (after two weeks). The Manager told you that the top management has pledged its full support to his idea.
