The Hauntology of the Photographic Image. We will be examining the haunted conception of photography in the 18th century and its enduring associations with death, loss and the supernatural up until the advent of the digital image.

The topic for the essay can be based on one of the seminar topics that has raised questions or issues that particularly interest you. OR. A topic that has arisen from your own research or studio practice and therefore not necessarily discussed in the sessions. All proposed essay topics and outlines are to be emailed to me by the end of week 7.

You should be judicious in your choice of images. Do not decorate your essay with them and never include an image that is not referred to directly in the text and always reference them, giving as much information that is available (artist, title, date, dimensions, location, source etc).
