Choose three technologies (they can be from the Horizon Report, but do not have to be) that you think will shape the future of learning. Research those technologies, gathering legitimate sources beyond the Horizon report (news articles, popular press pieces, etc.).

Assignment Question

Your final assignment gives you a chance to demonstrate your understanding of material from throughout this unit as well as the course overall and continue to play with new AI technology. Much of this unit focused on the potential issues that an over-reliance on technology can create. For this final assignment you have a number of options to choose from, ranging from creative writing, to design, to analysis, or a media production. Before we would have you write up these yourself, but for this year we’d like for you to dialogue with an AI model like ChatGPT. We just ask that you not take the first thing it spits out in response, but work with the AI to refine and improve what it gives you, ideally expanding/revising/transforming its initial response a few times — so do make sure to play with the technology and assignment as much as you can. The general requirements (see below) are the same for each assignment regardless of what you choose. Read through all options and choose one to complete. We recommend that you feed the AI technology whatever instructions you decide to pursue and figure out how to ensure it meets all the requirements and creates a great product! There are a variety of techniques you can use to get ChatGPT to write very different stories with more to less sophistication in character and plot development, from role-play, where you ask it to play a game where it assumes the role of a fiction writer or a collaborative partner, to perspective taking where you ask it to look at a scenario from multiple vantage points. Be creative try different things and see if you can push the boundaries of the ChatGPT model.

Here are some other ways you can use it to improve your writing:

Generating Ideas and Prompts: ChatGPT can be used to generate creative ideas and writing prompts. You can interact with the model, ask for suggestions, and receive inspiration for writing topics or storylines. This can help overcome writer’s block and stimulate your thinking in new ways. Expanding Vocabulary and Sentence Structures: ChatGPT can serve as a language resource for writers. You can ask the model for synonyms, alternative word choices, or examples of different sentence structures. This interaction can help expand your vocabulary, improve sentence variety, and enhance your overall writing fluency. Receiving Feedback and Editing Support: ChatGPT can provide immediate feedback on writing. You can share their draft with the model and ask for suggestions on grammar, punctuation, clarity, or organization. The model can help identify potential errors and provide guidance for improvements, serving as a virtual writing coach.

Storytelling and Dialogue Practice: You can engage in interactive storytelling or dialogue sessions with ChatGPT. As such, you can take turns writing a sentence or paragraph and then ask the model to continue the story or respond as a character. This collaborative storytelling can foster creativity, narrative development, and dialogue writing skills.

Research and Fact Checking: ChatGPT can help as you conduct research for writing projects. You can ask the model factual questions or request information on specific topics to gather reliable and accurate data and then cross-check that with authentic sources. Instructions: Analysis: In this assignment, you will use the 2023 EDUCAUSE Horizon Report,(https://library.educause.edu/resources/2023/5/2023-educause-horizon-report-teaching-and-learning-edition)particularly its focus on “Technological Trends,” as inspiration to make predictions about the learning technologies that will shape the future. This analysis, then, will demand that you: Choose three technologies (they can be from the Horizon Report, but do not have to be) that you think will shape the future of learning. Research those technologies, gathering legitimate sources beyond the Horizon report (news articles, popular press pieces, etc.).(https://www.allsides.com/media-bias/media-bias-chart) to get a sense of possible popular press outlets to search as well as where they land on the spectrum of political bias. This is just a starting point; not all of your sources will necessarily come from here. While there is not a set number of sources you must use, we imagine that your discussion on each technology will weave in more than one source in order to bolster your prediction. Make your predictions based on your research.

Note: While you use research to guide your analysis, much of this can be written in your own words. However, please list the references that influence your thinking at the end of your paper. Like the other options, you can use ChatGPT to help you develop your ideas, and then submit the entire transcript which you can copy and paste, showing all the different strategies you used and the final narrative output: Your analysis of learning technologies that will shape the future. General Expectations for A Project That “Meets Requirements” Between 500 and 750 words (or 4-5 minutes if audio/video) if you are writing content yourself. If you choose an option where ChatGPT generates content, simply provide the full transcript. All choices need to have a ChatGPT transcript that shows how you used ChatGPT as a resource for prompting thinking, generating ideas, generating content, or gathering information. Connections made back to lessons, or readings (or videos, podcasts, etc.), demonstrate understanding of material and adequately support the argument you are making. Prompt is clearly followed (not necessarily word for word, but it is evident that you have understood the prompt and used it as inspiration). Demonstrates some sense of originality, creativity, or genuine engagement with issues at hand. There is a logical flow that supports main points. Writing is clear and well-organized with few typos that do not distract from main points.
