Assessment Two
This assessment enables both students and lecturer to ensure that course outcomes are being met. The purpose of the
assessment is to analyse and evaluate the complexity of key globalisation factors in relation to tourism. The assessment is an
opportunity for students to research one issue from both a historical and current perspective. Students should provide both
local and global examples. This assessment contributes 30% to final mark. This assessment will be marked against the
generic marking criteria provided. Learning outcomes 2, 3 and 4 are assessed.
Learning outcomes
2. Critique and evaluate the case studies in relation to current tourism issues.
3. Evaluate and analyse the strengths and weaknesses in global academic research of the tourism industry.
4. Determine future directions of sustainable tourism globally.
Task
a) Choose one (1) contemporary tourism issue from the list below and analyse and evaluate this issue in relation to tourism
from both a historical and current perspective 600 words (15 marks)
 Mobility in tourism
 Emerging target markets
 Budget and No Frills Tourism
 Slow Tourism
b) Identify and critically analyse case studies and/or examples that highlight your chosen issue and evaluate the impact this
issue has on the current tourism industry from both a local and global perspective. 800 words (20 marks)
c) Discuss the major impacts of your chosen contemporary tourism issue from a socio-cultural, economic, environmental and
political viewpoint. Provide examples to support your answer. 800 words (20 marks)
d) Provide recommendations (at least 3-4) based on your analysis of your chosen issue to ensure a future direction that
supports sustainable tourism. 800 words (20 marks)
e) Use relevant theories and/or models to support your analysis and evaluation of the chosen contemporary issue. (15 marks)
f) Provide evidence of wider research and use of a minimum ten (10) relevant and current academic references. (5 marks)
g) Academic writing (inclusion of introduction and conclusion), accurate APA referencing in-text and reference list, overall
spelling and grammar. (5 marks)
