Dear Writer,
Please find below my supervisors’ feedback on what you have written:
1. Investigate other areas of literature which may be of value, including drivers/barriers to seeking employment generally as low % of Emiratis work due to financial support from government. Because UAE is a wealthy country, do Emirati people need to work?
2. Read about motivation theory about work. Giving back the UAE government their money might be a driver to Emirati people.
3. Read also about cultural theories and the values related to UAE.
4. Identify some other theories that might emerge during my research.
5. Should critique the current policies. Why the current policies did not work?
6- Think outside my culture.
7- Move what I have written about objective 2 to the discussion and findings part. The literature review should discuss the problem not the solutions.
8. Should include evidences wherever I wrote about the weaknesses of the theoretical framework.
9. As a researcher, it is important to have a critical lens particularly in relation to my own culture. Also substantiating any critique between West and East with evidence.
10. Could include a critical evaluation of the current initiatives to improve situation and why they have not worked to date.
11. My PhD should produce an original contribution to knowledge. Should my thesis include throughout justifying that the study will produce and has produced this, in literature review, in findings and in discussion. For example, many people did this and this but I am doing something different.
12. Check referencing technique against DMU guidelines.
13. The word limit is 80,000 words for PhD.
14. Look again at phenomenology as a methodology and consider whether a grounded theory approach may allow me more opportunity to explain what is happening within a holistic framework. If sticking with phenomenology, then I have to justify clearly how the lived experience is important in this context, as I will need to defend this at viva.
15. Should read about regulations and guidance online and read around structure of thesis in texts in the library. The common structure includes introduction, literature review, methodology, findings, discussion conclusion and recommendations. However all these can move outside this framework as long as all the elements are included. Some students choose to have a theoretical framework chapter as well as a literature review chapter on the subject. Some students choose to have a methodology chapter talking about the approach and then a research design chapter. Sometimes findings are presented in more than one chapter.
16. Should start the data collection whilst continuing to read widely and write. In addition, have to write reflective notes whenever I start the data collection.
I need you to do the following for this order:
1- Change the methodological approach from phenomenology to the grounded theory and make all the necessary modifications. You don’t need to delete what we have written about phenomenology as we can write that we have thought that phenomenology was appropriate at the beginning but then we recognised that we are not going to investigate just the lived experience. Please do your very best to explain all the important things while changing the methodological approach.
2- Can you write a draft to improve the literature review and give me the number of pages that I should order to complete this part following my supervisors’ comments, please?
3- Can you also write a more detailed draft for the findings part and let me know what do you think as well as how many pages should it include, please?
Waiting for your reply
