For this exercise, you will be examining the “Reid Technique” very briefly and develop a simplistic interrogation plan for a basic scenario. First, read that article located at https://reid.com/resources/investigator-tips/a-description-of-the-reid-technique, specifically starting at the subheading titled “nine steps of interrogation.” While reading the selected segment of the article, take notes specifically concerning each step of the Reid Technique. Second, consider the scenario written below. Then, write an interrogation plan that follows the nine steps of the Reid Technique and submit to the instructor via dropbox. Your plan should be thorough and detail how you would accomplish each step. Scenario: You have been named the new detective of a small town called Bikini Bottoms. Shortly after setting up your new office you receive a call about a possible homicide at the Krusty Krab restaurant and you need to respond immediately. When you arrive on the scene, you see an approximately 22 year old male named Sponge Bob sobbing uncontrollably. He is being watched by a patrol officer and you know him generally to be a good young man but one that has dabbled in narcotics usage. As you walk into the restaurant, you see a 24 year old male that you have arrested previously for meth trafficking laying in the floor dead with a large butcher knife sticking out of his back. You know this man to be Patrick Star and that he and Sponge Bob are sometimes friends. You know that Patrick usually gets violent with users who fail to pay off their debts to him. There is also a witness present in the corner crying. You go to speak to him and find out his name is Mr. Krabs and he is the owner of the Krusty Krab. He says that he didn’t witness what happened but that he heard some scuffling when he came out, Patrick was in the floor dying from the knife in his back and was pointing at Sponge Bob but couldn’t talk. He said that Sponge Bob then told him they were playing and Patrick fell onto his knife. You decide to put Sponge Bob into an extended investigative detention and take him to the station in downtown Bikini Bottom for an interrogation. On the way to the station, he can be heard mumbling “all this over $20…”
