The aim of Assignment 2 is provide you with an opportunity to conduct a data analysis for two countries on two topics of your choice.
You will compare and contrast your two countries on different areas related to economic development and try to understand whether you can explain the differences in development outcomes using the data provided.
You can choose two of the following countries: Algeria, Argentina, Botswana, Brazil, El Salvador, Indonesia, Malaysia and Nicaragua.
You can choose two of the following topics to study: Economic Growth, Inequality, Education, Health. Below are a recommended set of steps to keep in mind when completing your assignment:
1- Choose the two countries and the two topics you want to study.
2- Try to find proxies for the factors in your list in the data.
3- Separate the data series you identified as relevant, for the countries of your choice.
Assignment Structure:
1- Introduction (up to 350 words) : Explain why you chose those two countries and those two topics for this assignment. Theoretically, what do you expect the relationship between the two topics to be.
2- Data (400 words): Present your macroeconomic data, preferably in a table or a graph, and briefly describe the movements you observe. Compare your two countries.
3- Analysis (500 words): Can you explain the development outcomes, using the data? Can you pinpoint the factors which explain why one country is outperforming the other?
