Write a report outlining the reasons why organisational leadership matters in the classroom.

Write a report outlining the reasons why organisational leadership matters in the classroom.

Christ Jesus, if you haven’t already noted, was and is the penultimate leader. This week we will address several areas where, if you think of Christ as your leadership example, you will likely come to the same conclusion. Transformational leadership, and its contrast transactional leadership, is the most studied leadership theory to date. Although the concept of servant leadership has been around countless generations, the name itself was coined by Robert Greenleaf in the 1970s. These 2 theories, along with the skills approach and adaptive leadership, will help build your personal leadership foundation.

To prepare for this week’s learning, read/watch the items below:
• Read Chapters 3, 8, 10, 11 of your Northouse textbook.

WK3 Devotional

Where there is no vision, the people perish.
Proverbs 29:18
As a leader we must be ready to set and cast a vision. People want to know there is a leader who has thought through where they need to go and how they are going to get there. In God’s word He is very specific as he states, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” I believe he is speaking in terms of if we do not plan and move forward we will wither away and die. Therefore, we need to embrace the everyday calling of making a difference in the lives of people God has placed before us and to be ready in season and out of season with a vision. Take time this week to think about your life and where you have seen the most success. I believe it is when we had a vision, plan, and were willing to do whatever necessary to move forward that we saw the vision come to pass. Reflect on your leadership and project a vision in your life and in the way you lead!
• Consider this: What is your vision? If vision is central to your success, how will you begin to embrace your vision?
WK3 Three-Skill Approach Discussion

Objective: Explain the three-skill approach to leadership.
In order to be a leader who understands the depth and overview of how to lead there are three skills that continue to be of the most importance. The top three skills to embrace and use are technical skills, human skills, and conceptual skills. This can be broken down into three different categories ranging from top management, middle management, and supervisory management. See the Skills Table in Chapter 3 of your Northouse textbook to see the value of each skill within the context of the managerial area.
As you can see by the three-skill approach, each skill is important but they rise to different levels predicated on where you are in the organization. As a leader you must understand how to compare and contrast the skill with the organization and how the skill can be used to move everyone to new levels and grow the organization.
As a leader when you understand the three skills approach you become a better leader from the start as you know how, when, and why each skill is needed. Take time to think how you use the three-skill approach in your everyday life and leadership.
• Read Chapter 3 of Northouse
• Complete the Skills Inventory.
• In your initial post, consider the following:
o Summarize the three broad types of leadership skills.
o From the list of three, which one do you think is the most important to you and why?
o Which of the three skills do you need the most work on?
o How will you go about working to grow the skill you most need to improve?
WK3 Servant vs. Adaptive Leadership Discussion

Objective: Compare and contrast Servant Leadership and Adaptive Leadership.
There are many venues and styles of leadership. This assignment will begin to explore the differences between servant leadership and adaptive leadership. Each style of leadership has its own context and strengths, criticisms, and applications. Through your reading this week you will begin to see the characteristics of a servant leader and how they employ talents such as listening, empathy, awareness, foresight, and community as central tenants of knowing and living a servant leadership mindset. The adaptive leadership model focuses on mobilization, organization, motivation, and growth.
Northouse speaks to the conceptual processes of adaptive leadership from four viewpoints: system, biological, service orientation, and psychotherapy perspectives. Each of these lenses is critical to the many facets of adaptive leadership and how leaders utilize the concepts to identify challenges and maintain interaction between leader and follower.
Servant leadership focuses on developing people, sharing leadership, humility, integrity, influencing, and integration of spirituality. Understanding the commonalities and the differences of adaptive leadership and servant leadership will increase your knowledge and commitment to being a holistic leader.
• Take the Adaptive Leadership Questionnare in Ch. 11 of Northouse.
• Take the Servant Leadership Questionnaire in Ch. 10 of Northouse.
• Watch the video clip:
• Watch the video clip:
• In your initial post, answer the following:
o Summarize servant leadership and adaptive leadership.
 The two questionnaires should help provide additional insight into these theories. (These questionnaires will also be used in Week 5.)
o What do you see as the greatest differences between servant leadership and adaptive leadership?
o What do you see as the commonalities between servant leadership and adaptive leadership?
WK3 See and Seize Journal

Instructions
Objective: Evaluate the need for vision as a leader.
As you take time to read and reflect on the baseline foundations of leadership you will begin to see the value of having a vision and making sure that you are moving forward with accomplishing that vision. Maxwell speaks of the two baselines that every leader needs to think about when assessing his or her own leadership. First and foremost, the vision starts within, it is deep within us and we need to be ready to pull it out and foster it. Second, our vision draws on our history. This is critical as some of our history is not always good, so we need to be mindful of this and be willing to work through it and move to new levels in setting and casting a vision.
In your reflective journal, critically think about the power of vision within the context of leadership. Vision might start with us as leaders but it ultimately helps others and at times meets their needs. Setting and casting a vision helps us as leaders to gather resources in order to be proactive and deliver a vision that is achievable and creates a drive within us to achieve. People will only seize what they can see, it is our job as a leader to set and cast the vision!
• Watch the video clip at:
• Create a 1-page journal post regarding the concept of vision in relationship to leadership.
o Use insights from the resources this week and your personal experiences in your journal entry.
All written assignments should be formatted using APA.
WK3 Transformational Leadership Paper

Instructions
Objective: Compare and contrast transformational and servant leadership.
When you fully understand transformational leadership you begin to see the connection and comparison to followership. It takes a specific kind of leader to have the fortitude and ability to motivate, move, and create a new level of followership. Looking at transformational leadership in contrast to servant leadership you will begin to see the commonalities but also see the distinct differences.
Transformational leadership is established with what we can call a sense of charisma and uniqueness. There are many kinds of leadership from servant, transactional, authentic, and adaptive along with many others. Yet, transformational leadership gives us one central focus that many do not and that is the deep desire to improve one’s own leadership but also those who follow.
• Watch the video clip:
• Write a 2-3 page paper comparing and contrasting transformational leadership to servant leadership.
o Evaluate the biblical principles that are reflected in each style of leadership.
• Provide at least two scholarly references.
All written assignments should be formatted using APA.
