Write a study based on the topic of How do you evaluate academic literature?

Write a study based on the topic of How do you evaluate academic literature? Some of the essential skills that are needed before writing a comprehensive review are being able to efficiently and effectively summarize the literature you find (including being able to compare and contrast the multitude of sources) and being able to provide a critique of the research articles you are including in your review. The ability to provide an evaluative critique of another scholar’s work is a critical skill as an independent scholar. For any literature review, you are expected to synthesize and critically analyze the literature you are reviewing so that it is clear that your study is the next logical step in the line of research. This is an opportunity to specifically practice skills summarizing and critiquing the literature so that you can next begin to synthesize findings and illustrate the gap your research will fill. An annotated bibliography is a great way to organize your summaries and critiques, so this will be the format for this week’s assignment. As your assignment is an annotated bibliography, you’ll find that one set of resources for this week will provide you information on the content and structure for annotated bibliographies, particularly those from NCU’s Academic Success Center and library. Whereas, the second set of resources are geared toward helping you evaluate your resources, particularly related to methods, cultural sensitivity, systemic orientation, and ethics. For example, as you are reviewing your articles, you will want to consider how they support your AAMFT code of ethics (2015), which is available in the resources this week. Are there any ethical concerns in the methods or recommendations of the studies? Do the findings help to address any ethical concerns that exist in practice? A major area of consideration while evaluating your resources is sensitivity to diversity and social justice issues. Seedall and colleagues (2014) point out that as the MFT field has evolved, researchers are more cognizant of the unique needs and experiences of minorities and underserved groups. They identify eight goals of research that focus on diversity, social justice, and intersectionalities (2014, p. 142): Predicting outcomes or establishing empirical relationships Reviewing or critiquing existing literature Describing the experience of a marginalized group Presenting a conceptual model that fosters awareness and understanding Addressing the assessment or recruitment of diverse groups Enhancing clinical competence Empirically studying the effectiveness of a model or intervention Focusing on community outreach. Consider these potential goals as you evaluate each resource’s relevance to issues of diversity and social justice.
