Ways to Improve Teacher Inquiry Quality
Part one
Teachers have the responsibility of ensuring that they understand the changes facing their teaching practice to be in a position to enhance their teaching as well as learning. Therefore, inquiry is one of the steps towards enhancing and promoting learning. An inquiry should be recursive or repetitive to enhance the process of learning. Various indicators are used to help teachers in their assessment as well as assessment of others.
In reference to May’s case, and to the indicators, the context of the study is an area that I feel needs some improvement. It is evident and is true that May has provided valuable information about the need of the study and the status of the students that she is teaching. This is very essential in helping her and others to relate with her case as different teachers experience different situations and setting because of their kind of children they teach. The only thing that may fail to highlight and which I find important in this section is about the relationship between teachers and these students. Students learning are not solely dependent on the methods and strategies that teachers use but are also dependent on other attributes such as the way they relate with their teachers. In a situation where students relate well with their teachers and vice versa, there is a mutual relationship and it enhances learning. May has also failed to provide enough information about her skills and training. This is very essential when it comes to learning process. Therefore, if these could have been looked into, it could have made the context effective. Nevertheless, the context is recommendable.
Part two
One of the visual representations of the recursive process of action research is PDSA (plan, do, study and act). This can be represented on a diagram and it means that when the objectives are defined and plans on collection of data done, then the plan is executed, analysis and comparison of data then follows, and then another plan for the next cycle is done. Therefore, is a process that can be repeated or done for a number of times to ensure that positive results are obtained.
