America by Allen Ginsberg
To produce a detailed explication and analysis of a poem we have read. Pose an interesting, problematic, or significant question about your chosen poem and use textual evidence to support your analysis. Examine how the different elements (form, voice, word choice, sound, etc.) work together to convey the theme of the poem. You may choose one poem or compare up to two poems from those studied in class. The essay must include an introduction that includes the name and author of the poem(s), a brief paraphrase of the poem (2-3 sentences max), a thesis statement, analysis of the themes of the poem with evidence to support your interpretation, and a conclusion. Your analysis must be grounded in the poem by quoting from the poem(s) you are writing about.
