Avoiding Junk Food

Avoiding Junk Food

“Good morning, my name is Jane Smith. Today I would like you to imagine a world without nutritious food. Then I would like you to imagine a world where all the food available is junk. I conclude that the world of junk food is a bad one. This is because junk food is not healthy for any person’s health, whether adult or young. Teenagers have a habit of consuming large amounts of junk food. That is why today I take my time to let you know the disadvantages of eating junk food. I always loved the junk and fast foods. I loved them because I was lazy. I always came home late from work and tired. Due to this, I resorted to eating the fast foods and the junk foods because this was an easy option as compared to cooking. It made my work easy since I did not have to cook. However, I did not know the disadvantages that cam with this. All I did was enjoy the food without considering my health.

After a year, I realized that my clothes barely fit me anymore. My friends told me that I was growing fat but I was too busy with work to realize this. One morning as I looked at my self in the mirror, I was shocked at how fat I had become. It then downed on me that I had become obese. As you can see, I still am. When people eat a lot of junk, they become overweight. The oils in the food are a lot. Therefore, they make people become overweight. The fats and the processed flour in the junk food contribute in making a person overweight. The drinks like the sodas contain a lot of sugar that makes a person grow fat. In addition, when a person eats the processed foods, his energy is reduced. This makes the person to become less energetic. These processed foods contain many carbohydrates that make a person’s blood sugar level to increase. Therefore, in addition to growing fat, I was also weak. I could barely run or even walk long distances (Grosvenor & Smolin, 2006).

In addition, I developed illnesses like diabetes. This was due to the high amount of sugars in the junk food. I have a diabetes history in my family. The junk food made me have this disease at an early age. I am only twenty-five years old and I already have diabetes. These junk foods make a person with a history of diseases such as diabetes to contract them at an early age. Those with no history also contract the disease since they take in many sugars. The junk food also emits fats with high cholesterol level in the body. This thickens the arteries. If this happens, a person may suffer from heart attacks. It may also lead to high blood pressure. I am lucky to escape this disease. However, there are other over weight people suffering from both high blood pressure and diabetes. Therefore, being obese does not just result to adding weight but it a welcome to many diseases. The junk food also deprives you off the required nutrition you are supposed to practice in your diet. When a people eat junk everyday, they neglect the nutritious food such as fruits and vegetables (Gogerly & Gordon, 2009).

This causes the body to lack nutritious food thus making the immune system weak. This makes a person prone to diseases such as cold and fever. In addition, the junk foods also cause constipation and other ailments. This is because they lack the fiber that is always available in the nutritious foods. The sodas also contain high amounts of substances harmful to the human body. They contain phosphorous and other harmful chemicals that destroy the teeth and weaken the bones. This makes a person to be prone to sprains and fractures. I experience recurrent sprains and fractures when I strain to do some activities such as jogging. My life changed drastically after becoming obese. I regretted having taken a lot of junk. I constantly visited the hospital since I always fell sick. Had I had someone to educate me on the dangers of junk food, then maybe I could be healthy today. This is why I take this chance to talk to you so that you do not end up like me. I persuade you to avoid the junk food since you now know its bad effects. Thank you” (Donahue, Multimedia Entertainment & Films for the Humanities, 2003)
