Effective Scope in Statement of Work for Bids for a Project

Effective Scope in Statement of Work for Bids for a Project: Case

Study of Project Management at Dotcom.com

The Dotcom.com business venture scope should be changed in consideration of the needs of a client needs. The scope should consider inclusion of an assumption that most clients are computer savvy as found out in the course of the operations. The scope redesign should also include definition on deliverables and functionality of the project specifying on time-cost relationship to services. This will solve the problem of time wastage at the expense of income generation to the company. Clients are contributing to the problem by being ignorant about the statement of work that attributes to the contractors taking much time with them to understand the scope at no extra ‘coin’ to cater for the increasing costs in the company.

The time-cost relation should be communicated to the clients so that they remain responsible for the much time taken in their attendance, and the final ‘not this.’ Douglas R. Parker says,

Many people spend their time and energy developing designs for unique and creative projects. However, the owners of the projects look at it as secondary thoughts at best, often despising the design work. This does not make majority of clients to put their confidence and credit in the design profession, nor does it give them a satisfactory feeling with the consultancy process, despite the outcome (Parker 2009).

Understanding and knowing the clients’ expectations is the only way to balance their needs and the scope of the project in the case of Dotcom.com. Advising and educating the clients will solve the problem as the clients behave so because “they lack knowledge and thus misunderstand the project processes, leading to disagreements and conflict in their business relationships” (Sisco 2012).

It is difficult to change a business scope as this may change the type of customers. This may end up affecting the business and the clients. Starting to manage a client’s expectations in the midst of delivering services for a project deliverable is always a late decision. Therefore, business entrepreneurs should only probe into expectations at the start of the clients’ requests (Sisco 2012).
