RESILIENCE, SATISFACTION AND HAPPINESS

RESILIENCE, SATISFACTION AND HAPPINESS

Introduction

In life, different people exemplify different feelings about their own lives. Resilience, satisfaction and happiness vary among people due to different factors.  For instance, while someone may be feeling pain of losing a close friend, other people’s emotions related to depression and anxiety vanish with time.  Other people gain strength and grow due to these adversaries.

Various researches have been conducted in different universities on the level of satisfaction with life, resilience and happiness.  The study revealed that satisfaction is a component of emotional intelligence meaning that every individual controls his or her emotions and those of others.

Research on students found out that those students who were resilient were satisfied with their life and believed that they controlled their emotions and state of mind.  Therefore, resilience correlates with satisfaction of a person’s life. Characteristics of resilience include being in a position to regulate emotions, self esteem optimism about life. Individuals can improve on these characteristics since they are important in improving the quality of life.

When it comes to happiness, research has found out that women in their early years start life happier than men. However, as they age they begin to have trouble in achieving their goals hence ending up unhappy. This is opposite when it comes to men. Men will tend to be happier with their life when they are older.  Absence of fulfillment in a person plays a crucial role in the well-being of a person.  Expectations of success tend to vary between demographic characteristics such as generation over time.  These expectations also contribute to the happiness of a person during his/her lifetime.

In life, approximately 90 percent of both men and women aspire to have a happy marriage.  This finding shows that majority of people who are yet to enter into marriage but hope to get marriage hope for a happy life.  The level of success of attainment of individuals of different genders   determines the satisfaction level of individual.  Furthermore, studies have revealed that men are least happy when they are in twenties and single. Young people are also dissatisfied with their financial situation because they have less but they aspire to get more.

Men are happy and satisfied with having a family and this happiness begins when they are aged 34 years; the age most of them are likely to get married. Furthermore, they become satisfied with their financial situations as time elapses. This is reflected in their increased spending power.  They also admire expensive items, which they may not be able to afford until they gain financial freedom later in their life. Things that men admire most include good homes and cars and therefore they aspire to get them to be fully satisfied and live happy life. On the other hand, women love buying nice clothes more than men.

Mixed findings have been found about indicators of success such as employment, relationship, status, health and longevity in relation to happiness. Some findings show that there is relationship while others show no relationships.  Therefore, it may not be true that individuals who have financial freedom are happy or those in middle class are unhappy.  For instance, most satisfied people may not be earning much or may not be engaged to any political affiliation, rather those who are most satisfied may be successful in their social life and engaging in volunteering and in stable relations.

Happiness should be moderated in some areas such as income, career and conscientiousness to ensure success.   Extreme happiness is not good since it may lead to unhappiness later in life because happier people may be over confident, water time hence being affected in the long run.

Unhappy people should therefore pursue happiness to enable them lead a satisfactory life and achieve their goals. However, even as they pursue this happiness, they need to be cautious of extreme happiness because it might be counterproductive.

In conclusion, it is important for people to be resilient in life to achieve satisfaction and happiness.  All these three traits are important in the life of an individual and depend on an individual.
