For your third essay, you will write a thematic analysis of Coleridge’s poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. This analysis should be about 1000 words long, in MLA format with an annotated bibliography (5 sources total: the poem, three critical sources from the TCC databases, and whatever else you choose), and should
• contain a thesis that argues the significance of one theme
• avoid the obvious (in other words, it won’t argue a conclusion that most readers could reach on their own from a general knowledge of the story)
• support its main points with strong evidence from the poem
• include opinions from three critical essays with appropriate analysis of each source
• use careful reasoning to explain how evidence relates to the main points of the interpretation
