Measurement and Instrumentation in Research

D2: Measurement and Instrumentation in Research

This Discussion is based on the textbook readings from Lodico, Spaulding, and Voegtle (2010). Before contributing to the Discussion, review Lodico, et al. (2010), Chapters 1, 2, 4 and 5. Most researchers and administrators must find ways to evaluate the success of a particular treatment or the quality of a program. In doing so, it is often necessary to create some form of measurement, which typically can take the form of a survey or questionnaire.

•What considerations should be made when choosing a preestablished measure or creating one (consider reliability, validity, etc.)?

•How might you apply these considerations to your current academic/professional environment?

•What other considerations should be made with respect to sampling and sampling rationale?

•What ethical issues should you consider?

Always examine all the Learning Resources before posting to the Discussion. Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources, as well as any other relevant research you find appropriate.

Post your response to the questions above, making sure to include any necessary citations to appropriate articles. Make sure to provide some examples from the text and research articles (located in the class library), as well as from your own experiences.
