This thesis proposal is for a pedagogical research on my MA studies as an artist and an educator. The research is about the teaching methods use in cinematography studies focusing on the “Lens Theory”. Using the Len’s focal length as the base of teaching, the purpose of this method is to encourage students to fully understand how each focal length of the lens can interpret different meaning of the composition in film making. By mastering one tool of cinematography at a time, this will help students to pre visualize the story more effectively as a cinematographer apart from using the conventional story boarding methods. With the rich tutorial video about film making available online nowadays, student learning and teaching methods need to be changed. Also this method is to discourage new cinematography study students from having the Gear Acquisition Syndrome which is a very common traits in cinematography students nowadays because of the influx new digital cinema technology which is easily available in the market.
