Ethnographic research directs their study on particular organizations and businesses to see if new immigrants from countries including Mexico, Philippines and China among others have replaced African American workers in their job positions. Statistical information is used to determine the relationship between the wages earned and employment opportunities between the African American and the immigrating population (Tsuda 2011).
Ethnographic study cases have shown that the immigrants have caused displacement of African American workers because of immigration factor increasing local employment depending on if it increases the level of economic growth. However, the displaced workers can adjust to the new situation by learning new skills that could assist them in growing back their economic stability and hence the ethnographic research group cannot conclude on the impact of this displacement to be negative. The employment of immigrants has been made possible but at the cost of African Americans in short term (Tsuda 2011).
For example, managers prefer the immigrants to the black Americans because they consider them more affordable, industrious and submissive. However, they view African Americans as a threat to their working environment because they are very demanding and erratic. This type of work discrimination occurs especially if the immigration population is from an African origin. Immigrant societies are capable of building a strong societal and information systems that boosts growth on their employment foundation for members of their own society.
As the low skilled immigrant population increases, so does the challenges faced by the low skilled African American workers. Immigration networks cut off opportunities to the immigrant market because of reasons related to the level standards of skill required in the workers (Tsuda 2011). For example, the conflict between African Americans and one of the Immigrant groups known as Latinas has caused problems for members of the black race in a minor social group struggling to adapt in a work environment where English is replaced by a native language such as Spanish as the common language spoken. In addition, the black people also rely on the immigrant members to acquire particular work skills for accomplishing required tasks.
Although the negative impact of immigration on Black Americans cannot be well established, proof of racial competition and conflict in small wage employment is visible. In addition, it should be considered as a serious factor by those who are apprehensive about the Black American opportunities of employment. Most of the ethnographic research groups have only been able to identify feeble effects of salary and employment of immigrant staff and hence these findings should not be completely relied on (Tsuda 2011). This is because the impact of employment could be negative to other workers while at the same time benefit another group of workers in the same level. For example, it is possible to find low wage immigrant workers suffering the negative effects of wages and employment while the high wage workers enjoying the advantages.
However, the negative impacts of immigration employment is strongly felt when the concentration is on African Americans. For example, statistics in New Jersey have shown that an increase in the earnings of immigrants from Puerto Rico by one unit decreases the earnings of African Americans by four units (Tsuda 2011). This clearly demonstrates how native immigrants benefit from employment than Black Americans. Immense immigration has also contributed to decreasing the participation efforts of African American despite of arising developments and progress in economic areas. However, immigration can be to the Black American’s advantage only if they are highly educated (Tsuda 2011). For example, the educated black workers could be an asset to the immigration business because of contributing useful knowledge and skills they acquired from their educational experiences that could be used in different departments such as finance, accounting and marketing among others.
