This article is written by the American academy of child and adolescent psychiatry and American psychiatric association in the ADHD journal titled Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. The purpose of the article is to educate the public on what ADHD, which is a neurobehavioral condition with attention problems. Another reason is to expose ways on how a parent can detect if their child is suffering from this condition as early as possible. In addition, the article entails the different types of treatments that include medication and behavioral treatment which if followed correctly and monitored by a profession can manage this condition in a person. I agree with the ways given on how to detect if a child is suffering from this condition. On the other hand, I disagree with the types of treatment that include medication because I believe behavioral treatment alone can help in managing this condition. I would recommend that this article include the right diet to give to children and adolescents suffering from this ADHD condition.
This journal article is written by Tanya Anderson of the Great Cities Institute in the PSTD in children and adolescents journal titled impact of trauma on development. The purpose of this article is to show the impact of trauma on children and adolescents with regard to their development. Trauma affects children and adolescents in their current development stage and in future development stage. Children and adolescents react to trauma in different ways depending on their age and their development stage. When the trauma occurs, it can be sudden like war, or on going like abuse and neglect. Children exposed to the same trauma may react differently depending on age and exhibit psychiatric problems, which are often misdiagnosed with specific psychiatric illness while in the real sense they are suffering PSTD. Trauma influences the development of social and communication skills of adolescents since they face trauma at their cognitive development stage. In addition, they are unable to regulate their emotional and physical states because of lack of self-awareness. I agree with most of the points except the point on misdiagnosis of posttraumatic stress because a professional psychiatry should access the history of a patient carefully before diagnosing that patient. I would recommend they include a topic on the specific symptoms of PSTD.
This article is written by Robert Kowatch et al in titled Treatment Guidelines for Children and Adolescents with Bipolar Disorder: Child Psychiatric Workgroup on Bipolar Disorder. The purpose of this article is to distinguish the symptoms of a patient suffering from bipolar disorder from a patient suffering from any other psychiatry condition. These symptoms include expansive mood in children and adolescence, irritable moods, grandiosity which is fantasy filled with illusion, decreased need for sleep that a child sleeps less than five hours and is not fatigued and racing thoughts whereby, a child says that their brain is racing at a high speed. All these symptoms are accompanied by maniac behavior. I agree with the symptoms listed in the article except the symptom on grandiosity because small children often say they have invisible friends and do not necessary suffer from bipolar disorder. I would recommend they add a topic on ways to reduce these symptoms without using medication.
This article is written by WHO organization in the Atlas journal that is titled child and adolescent mental health resources.. The purpose of this topic is to create awareness on the CRC that is the United Nations convention on children and adolescent comprehensive universally endorsed rights to mental health. These range from their emotional well-being to mental illness and disorder. It iss a core principle is that it has the best interest of the child and is both recognized in the developing and industrialized countries. I agree with the article on the core principle but disagree on the point of it being used in both developing and industrialized countries because these countries have different monetary and technology capacities to deal with mental illness in children and adolescent. I would recommend the topic on measurement put in place to deal with countries that do not observe the core principle of the CRC to be included in the journal.
