What military service means to me

Serving in the military is not just an ordinary job. It is meant for people who have a call to serve. There is no amount of compensation can be equal to this service. This job can only be done by those with a special interest in it. Since my tender age, I have believed in serving my country in a special way. I always felt that I needed to show gratitude by protecting our freedom and interests. I could not wait to join the military. Many people would wonder why a person would choose a military career, especially for a woman. It would set an admirable example to the rest of the people who think it is not a bright idea. I do agree that there are many risks associated with this career, but I feel that protecting my country is a priority.

When I was almost joining the military academy, my mother was not comfortable with the idea. She got concerned about my safety and wanted me to reconsider. She even made discuss other options, but in my heart, I was certain that I needed to be in the military. Serving in the military is what would have made me happy. Today I feel proud of all those fellow service men and women who have sacrificed many pleasurable things to be where they are today. Joining the military has to be a decision that has been accepted by family. This is important because it is not an easy task to make all decisions on your own. This career demands a lot of time away from family and friends. Sometimes you are out on official duty, and no one knows when and if you will be back.

For those years that I have served in the military, I acquired the value of my career. It might be a tough experience, but it is worth it. The government ensures that all service people are well compensated and taken care of. College fees are paid by the government, so one does not have to worry about them. After training, the government ensures that you are enjoying several benefits like health insurance, retirement schemes, paid vacations and other privileges. Through my remuneration, I have been able to support my three children. I am assured that even after finishing my service I will benefit from the money I am saving right now.

However, it would not be wise for a person to join the military because of the attractive remuneration. Such people will have a hard time because it requires determination and selflessness. This is why one sacrifices a lot to become a service person. Every day when I wake up I feel wonderful because I enjoy being a service woman. I feel privileged because I was able to do what I wanted and I enjoy it. I would like to encourage all those who have a calling of serving in the military. They should go ahead and do so because the country needs them. Parents should not discourage their children from this career because they have a right to make their choices. I also encourage my children and tell them that they are at free will to follow whichever career path they aspire, including the military. It means a lot to me when I serve my country this way.

I will continue doing my best in my job. I will do so not because I am under oath to do it but because I am living my dream career. Some people do not have the chance of following their dream careers because of various reasons. Since I got that privilege, I will utilize it to the best of my knowledge and effort. I swore to do my work diligently therefore; I will abide to that pledge. Even after my retirement, I will not stop to assist in serving my country. It is the duty of all citizens to assist in national development. This is also part of serving the country. All people should have a purpose of serving the country in whichever way they can. We should not do this expecting awards or recognition. This is our country and we should make it a better place for our families, the future generations and us. This way we will be exemplary to our children and those who view us as erole models.
