Why I Love Softball
Evaluating all the activities that I do in out of school, I believe softball is part of my life. I became acquainted with the basics of the game when I was six years old. At this time, I was watching our house school team play and we used to support them as a town. I watched parents supporting their children wholeheartedly as their children played with such passion. The emotions run high in the field and on the stands and tears out of joy would almost trickle from my eyes. The joy from the players filled the air and the fun filled their hearts (Berg 2012). It was exciting watching the players play as a unit. I remember these moments like yesterday because they changed my life.
I gained interest in the game and by the time I joined UnionHigh School, I registered with the softball team as my first activity. The team embraced me warmly as their new team members. I felt like I was a young child being born. We were ushered and trained to be among the best softball players in the school. My love for softball grew even more due to the feeling of belonging to a team. The senior players made me feel welcome. They created a feeling of belonging and importance due to the roles everyone had to play. This feeling was so fulfilling that, at this point, I fell in love with the sport.
What made my love for softball to grow is the friendship I got from the team members. In the field, we played as a team. We were like one unit. Outside the field, we are all friends. Every body in the team cares about the well-being of the other players. I remember one time I was hospitalized after been diagnosed with a stomach problem, all my team members came to see me at the hospital. Even I after, I was released from hospital they used to come to my home and help my mum with my chores. We even had sleepovers at my house until I was better. We shared some of our secrets and bonded as a team. After I was fully recovered, they organized a party for me, welcoming me back to the team. It was the most emotional time for me as a softball player. This heartfelt love made my love for softball grow.
When playing the game, the feeling of hitting the ball right at the sweet spot of the bat is extremely thrilling. The way the crowd cheers after one hits the ball is so much exciting. The town has been supportive of the team when we are playing. When we are out in the streets, people in the town often give a word or two of encouragement. The people embrace us with a lot of love and they support as to continue playing and having fun. There is nothing more fulfilling than being appreciated for what you are doing. Such moments make my love for softball grow further.
At school, the teachers and the students were our number one fans. They ensured that we would not miss a game or fail to attend practice. However, the policy remained that education comes first. Therefore, the teachers ensured that everybody got the best education to improve our grades so that we could concentrate on the sport. In the field, watching my schoolmates cheering me as I run for the base and crossing home is exceptionally great. This makes one long for that exciting moment in the game. The immense emotion and adrenalin rushes, makes me love softball the more.
I can never forget the support that my family is offering me. My mother is always at the forefront encouraging me to continue playing softball. When my spirits are down, my mother always raises my spirits with a few encouraging words. On the other hand, my dad ensures that I have everything that I need for the game. Additionally, the two of them have never missed a single game when I am playing. They have always supported me when am on and off the field. This makes me play well to show my gratitude for their support and love. All these emotions increase my love for softball.
As I am playing for my college team, I feel like I am in a second family that I never had. Every body in the team makes me feel at home. When I am heart broken, I can share my sorrows with any body in the team. This is because the bond that has developed draws us closer to each other. The protection that I get from the team members both in and out of the field is magnificent. The real life experiences in the field, makes me grow as a person and as a player. For example, I have transferred the team spirit to my classes during group discussions and other learning activities. For this reason, I would not have any better sport than softball an no better times than those shared with my friends and teammates. Softball has molded me and made me a champion (Bennett 2012). In this case, I believe softball is part of me and that is why I love playing softball.
