THE INEQUALITY OF MAN AND WOMAN

THE INEQUALITY OF MAN AND WOMAN

Introduction

Various studies have pointed out that many people around the world have a perception that men ought to be treated favorably in some areas in comparison to their female counterparts. This is more especially with regard to education, employment and so on. Despite numerous affirmations that both men and women should be equally treated, there are a number of people still believing that men should be considered as more important and  be treated more fairly than women . The word societies in the present perspective have just begun exploring the factual differences and similarities that are extant between women and men.  However, the manner in which women and men think and behave varies accordingly (Ojavlvo, 2010).

Media Report on the Equality of men and women

According to an article derived from Los Angeles Times,   Congress on the   February 2013 passed laws that were meant to subjugate the suppression of women’s rights and violence instilled against them.  They did through reauthorizing the violence against women act enacted in 1994, and which had almost become defunct at this time. The provisions also included laws that protected lesbians, gays, transgender as well as Native American victims of violence.  According to Goldberg, (2013) the reauthorization of this act by congress was done at good time since the former one had seemed to be almost ineffective.  Goldenberg does not conceive on why the legislators took so long to react to this aspect owing to the fact that this law  that was long established in 1994 had been renewed more than two times without seeming to be  effective.  The difference with the earlier law however, is that the fact that it covers a wide range of victims (Goldberg, 2013).

The reauthorization of this act was a good measure towards realizing gender equality in USA. America is to be a nation where all people are supposed to exercise their rights towards pursuing their own standard of happiness and lives, which are fearless, irrespective of what gender they are. That should be the priority of the nation at present.  The reauthorization of this 1994 act, which was spearheaded by the US vice president Joe Biden, facilitates the prosecution of   crimes instigated against women such as sexual assault, trafficking, abuse and domestic violence.  In addition, the bill will also see the protection of lesbians, gays and native America who are normally victims of no tribal citizens.

Although America has recorded a significant progress since the first time the violence against women act was enacted in 1994, cases of domestic violence and women insubordination are still rife in this nation. Although the state has made a significant progress since the enacting of violence against women law in 1994, cases of domestic violence are still rife in today’s perspective. In fact, studies sadly point out that one out of three women are victims of domestic violence in America today. This law therefore if well implemented will help to subvert this misdemeanor.

By using an a typical example of a lady who is learned with suitable job but unable to develop her life Lowrey,  (2013) points  out  on how gender  discrimination  has eaten into the core of the American culture.  According to her article of a story posted in New York Times, 13, 2013, Ms Pearly Brady has a stable job, which pays well.  She also has masters and bachelor’s degree.  In spite of these efforts, she  has not  saved  a single penny  and wonders if she will be able to    make enough money  in order to put up a decent house,  save  for her children  and  finally her own retirement.  According to her, she is in a nervous state, since she is unaware on how she will start saving.

A study from the urban institute however establishes that Ms Brady is not alone in this category.  It established   many women at around the age have accumulated very few wealthy if any in comparison to their parents while at that age.  This is in spite of the fact that the average wealth of the American citizens has more then doubled in recent times.  This is   owes to the fact that the value of the dollar has depreciated in comparison to earlier years.   Because of this aspect, younger adults are facing the future, which appears to be less secure and at the same time shaky.

Samantha long and her sister, Etta Thornton born in 1972 were both adopted at the age of 9 months.    Since they had been at the care of other people and not their biological mother, they decided to look for her in 1990s.  Though they later found their biological mother, they were not expecting to find her in the status she was. According to them, they were expecting to find   her mother as young and still energetic figure who just got pregnant and was not in a position to keep them along.   What however, astonished the two girls is that   their mother’s   health  and physique had deteriorated    due  to her being incarcerated by nuns of all the people!

They came across her mother, Margaret Bullen in 1995 working in a laundry at MacDermott Street. The laundry place is considered as one of the infamous laundries in Magdalene. It was also referred as a workhouse of girls.    Ladies working in such laundries were subjected to toiling for six days aweek without being paid.  What is more shocking also is that the government of Ireland was also involved  together with these nuns  in the incarceration of thousands of  ladies  in the system of forced labor experienced  in that country  during 1990s. The failure of the government to apologize or come clean was equally disappointing to many including the two sisters.

Margrate Bullen spent her childhood under state care and was later transferred   to a laundry in her midteens.  While under the care of nuns, she became pregnant two times, probably due to sexual abuse.  Both of these children were taken from her and adopted.   This case illustrates that the Irish government as being unable to defend itself against its involvement in human rights abuse, as its was involved in referring individuals to such laundries.  Moreover, there was an indication that the state rejected pleas from civil rights organization for inquiry into the matter  before it was brought before the UN committee against torture in 2012 (Ryan,  2013).

Sandberg’s conception on the true world with equality is that whereby women are made to run half of the nations and men run half of their homes. The economics law and various studies of diversity informs as that, if humanity are trapped in the whole pool of human talent and resources, then the performance gets improved.  From this author’s perspective, boys and girls are handled in different ways by almost all societies. On the other hand, women integrate the negative messages they come across throughout their lives.  Such kind of messages include that it is wrong to be aggressive or outstand men in any perspective, and hence, these women  end up pulling back when they should have instead   be leaning on.

Sandberg, (2013) observes that in developed world such as the United States, women are perceived differently and somehow better than less developed nations.  The noble truth however is that men are still dominant in many aspects.  While these women have continued to outstand men in educational achievement,   the decision making process at the top of many organizations had been hindered.  It is virtually true that men and women are not equally heard in much organization. This has made the revolution process to stagnate.

Humanity ought not to ignore the really obstacles facing women in the professional world today. From discrimination, sexism, lack of access to childcare or parental leaves to sexism.   However, they should dismantle the internal obstacles that hold them back from achieving what they deserve.  From a very early age, girls and ladies acquire the notion that they ought to select between their career and being a good mother or wife.  By the moment they reach college, these ladies   have already a perception regarding the kind of careers they will undertake.  In a study conducted in Princeton in 2006, 62% of the women pointed out on the existence of work/family conflict, in comparison to a paltry 30% of the men interviewed.  Among the men who anticipated the work/family conflict, 46 of them were on the assumption that their wives were supposed to step away from their careers.

Conclusion

Both men and women  ought to understand  their  various roles in the society  and endeavor to  complement each other  so as to  generally improve  on  the humanity life.  In correcting the abuse of male prominence, men should turn their attitudes and focus their energies on doing things which can be beneficial not only to themselves but to the whole society.  In other words, these men ought to use their strengths so as to preserve and protect the character of the female person.  Instead of undermining them, they should instead assist them in realizing their real potential and how it benefits the society and the whole word at large.
