A 1-2 page paper defining and explaining a technical mechanism, procedure, device, or concept, or a scientific problem and its significance intended for a non-technical, non-expert audience. For example, you might define
a Java applet, a haptic interface, the mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease, or an electron microscope. Topics
must be related to your major or general focus. For example, mathematics or engineering students may not
choose a medical topic, or vice versa.
